Sight Advice South Lakes

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £500 to Sight Advice South Lakes for cooking equipment. Sight Advice provides help, advice, emotional support, and information on sight loss to over 2,000 local people living with visual impairments in the South Lakes area of Cumbria.

The charity's mission is to empower individuals with visual impairments to lead happier and more independent lives.

In addition to offering information about eye conditions, Sight Advice provides valuable guidance on independent living, utilising the latest technology and assistive devices. The organisation also facilitates numerous social groups, both online and in person, fostering connections among community members who are blind or visually impaired.

Recent feedback from their clients indicated a desire to learn about the various kitchen gadgets available and how to use them, helping them build the confidence to cook safely at home. The 3R grant was used to purchase cooking equipment, including both adapted devices designed for the blind and visually impaired, as well as mainstream gadgets that enhance kitchen safety.

The initiative will involve demonstrating this equipment to small groups at Sight Advice's Kendal office. Following these sessions, participants will have the opportunity to use the kitchen facilities at Kendal College, where they can practice preparing and cooking meals from scratch using the specialised equipment, further developing their confidence and independence.
