Grant awarded - Lancaster & Heysham School Sport Network CIC

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £500 to Lancaster & Heysham School Sport Network CIC for a range of forest schools equipment. The organisation is a Community Interest Company (CIC) that was founded at the request of local schools to provide support for PE and school sports across Lancaster, Morecambe, Heysham, and South Lakes.
Initially focused on sports education, they have since expanded their services and are now the primary provider of general pupil health and wellbeing programs, covering both physical and mental health. Additionally, they engage in community initiatives, offering holiday activities, afterschool clubs, and wellbeing programs.
They approached us as they are developing a collection of specialist equipment designed to help increase activity levels among local children. The initiative will provide schools with opportunities to incorporate more active learning into their curriculum, making use of outdoor spaces and drawing inspiration from the 'Forest Schools' model.
Their plan is to bring these activities directly into schools—offering around 45 schools the chance to participate—while also organizing trips for groups of children to venues across the area. By delivering sessions in schools, the hope is that staff will observe and adopt some of the activities, helping to ensure the project’s long-term impact. This initiative will also tie into broader efforts to promote physical activity and overall wellbeing.
