GRANT AWARDED - Deafway Community Garden

GRANT AWARDED - Deafway Community Garden
The 3R Foundation recently awarded £500 to Deafway Community Garden which they used to buy some wheelbarrows and gardening tools. Deafway is a registered charity supporting the Deaf Community. They support two Deaf Clubs one in Preston and the other in Lancaster.

They told us that they are building a community garden for everyone to use at their head office in Preston. In particular as an outdoor meeting space in the summer for barbeques for the Deaf Clubs as neither Preston or Lancaster have a garden space. They will also use the space for the wider local community with basic gardening courses, wellbeing courses and wreath making at Christmas.

They plan to build the raised beds over autumn and winter in time for the growing season in Spring. The 3R grant funding was used to buy garden tools for the volunteers to use to start the project such as wheel barrows, spades, trugs, forks and water butts with the remainder of funds left over going towards purchasing fruit trees for the Community Garden such as apple, cherry and pear.
