As a volunteer-led conservation and green space improvement group, its members undertake a variety of tasks, including litter picking, general maintenance, pathway and flowerbed upkeep, and grave tidying upon request. Through these efforts, the group ensures that the cemetery remains a well-cared-for and welcoming space.
In addition to routine maintenance, the charity has ambitious plans for the future. These include the restoration and opening of one of the cemetery lodges for visitor use, as well as hosting exhibitions, music and spoken word performances, and other cultural displays.
The grant was used to purchase essential tools and equipment to support the work of the Friends of Lancaster Cemetery. These included robust compost bins to facilitate the recycling of green waste into usable compost, leaf mould bins for repurposing tree waste, tree branch loppers, and other tools that will help in maintaining and improving the cemetery grounds.
